Strings for Dean Edge 6 string fretless

Hi. I've been playing an old jazz copy fretless that sounds great, but I have no idea what the strings are (roundwound with red silk at head end).
Loving fretless, I recently bought a 2nd hand Dean Edge 6 string. I am pretty happy with it, but the strings are horrible! Can somebody please recommend a good make/type to go for? I mostly play contemporary Christian rock in church, rarely slap, but like to whizz around the fingerboard a bit when nobody is looking :-) I don't like 'twangy' but fartier & growlier the better.

A search of the forum turned up a recommendation for Status Graphite half/wounds. Has anyone else used these?
