phobucket Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 I've got a double gig with a rock/pop pianist and roots rock/jam guitarist coming up next week, so right now it is these [s]three [/s] four guys who do a great job of balancing pocket and exploration. This week: Dee Murray - Amoreena anyone? This guy deserves massive respect. Jimmy Haslip - with Bruce Horsby on Hot House - lurv him with the Yellowjackets too, but he fits in well with this group too. Kenny Gradney - What a pocket! Two Trains is fun, but ckeck out the slow tunes liek Roll Um Easy Jimmy Johnson - with JT live @ the Beacon - the lines you wish you came up with Quote
bluesparky Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 For me, it's 1 - Flea, 2 - John Paul Jones 3 - Tim Commerford Whereas Jaco is an idol of mine and an inspiration, i certainly don't play like him Quote
paulwillson Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Jon Stockman (Karnivool) Jean Baudin Roy Mitchell-Cardenas (mutemath) I wouldnt say i sound like these either but if i ever get given a piece of music to write bass to i can always get inspired to do some cool phrases after listening to these guys.
