britpoprule
Hi guys.. I'm not english and I came here just 1 month ago.. Can you please suggest me some big websites where I can find second hand instruments? I obviously already know Ebay and Gumtree..and none of these two has loads of stuff.. thanks a lot
Cat Burrito
Not really but a few of the main sites have second hand sections; http://www.coda-music.com/index.php?cPath=170 http://www.cardiffguitars.co.uk/ForSale/sh/sh.aspx http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/preowned_guitars.asp and then you have the vintage and rare sites too. I can't help thinking if you can't find enough of EBay then I think you may struggle. And then we have these very pages have a wanted section. Most of us have done a number of trades or purchases

ikay
I can also recommend Bass Gear in Harrogate - http://www.bassgear.co.uk/used-stock/ They have some interesting used basses and Phil Nixon is extremely helpful

BigRedX
You could also try the Ishibashi Ubox. They have loads of instruments especially if you're interested in Japanese basses. And also Bass Direct have a second hand section. Whether or not they're expensive depends I think on what you're after. The instruments I've bought from them have all been either cheaper than buying in the UK or simply not available here in which case any price is a good one if you can afford it. I wouldn't really consider using them for anything other than Japanese brands that are at best difficult to obtain in the UK. Also the poor Pound/Yen exchange rate means that there aren't the bargains that were around a couple years ago when £1 = ¥200.
lemmywinks
It's also worth looking in your local paper. Mine has a free ads section once a week and there's some true bargains in there

BigRedX
I still have shipping prices for the last two basses I bought. One was a Yamaha BJ 5B which came in what is now the largest hard case I own and cost ¥18000 to ship to the UK. The other was a Fernandes Pie-Zo (travel bass) which was just boxed with it's gig bag and was ¥12000 for shipping. I would imagine that an average sized bass would be around the ¥16000-17000 mark which is approximately £120-130.
britpoprule
you'll probably laugh at me... I'm a guitarist but in this case I'm interested in buying a bass...a very cheap one cause I still don't know if I will like playing bass...maybe in the future I will buy a good one.. to be clear I would spend around 275 pound (don't laugh ) and I was searching for a mexican Fender Jazz Bass that looks like this one [url="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/shop_image/product/39a48a1a6a8bab19ee44f2204b000443.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/10810-fender-60-s-jazz-bass-black-.html&usg=__roGqA6LzDhqcmPut847xZ5VkbRY=&h=780&w=780&sz=99&hl=it&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=eD8S7edk_y1zmM:&tbnh=144&tbnw=144&prev=/images%3Fq%3DFender%2BJazz%2BBass%2Bblack%26um%3D1%26hl%3Dit%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D592%26tbs%3Disch:10%2C74&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=550&ei=ONboTIzSNsSOjAf4lPyFAw&oei=rtXoTNqYEJ2ShAe8xKEP&esq=21&page=1&ndsp=21&ved=1t:429,r:3,s:0&tx=72&ty=18&biw=1280&bih=592"]http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http...280&bih=592 do you think other less famous brands would be better at this prize ? One was listed the day before you signed up - perhaps that was what drew you here? If it's just a jazz style bass you want, that opens up a world of possibilities including the Squier Classic Vibes and Vintage modified basses. britpoprule
Anyway...I live in London...do you think it's worth going to have a look at denmark street? or their prices are not so good?
BigRedX
Denmark Street is essentially a tourist trap. Stay away unless you want to be insulted/ignored. Go to the Bass Gallery in Camden instead for much better experience.
britpoprule
I wanted to know...if I buy on ebay from USA or Japan...a part from the expensive shippings, will I be charged by the UK or I will not pay anything else? I'm italian and when I was in Italy and used to buy from the USA, once the product arrived at home in Italy I was charged of the 20% (if I'm not wrong) and I had to pay extra money to the postman...because USA and Japan are not in the European Community.. what about here in London, England? It's like in Italy or it works differently? I'm really interested cause as you know, especially USA offers cheaper prices... thanks a lot Edited November 24, 2010 by britpoprule

I seem to see a lot of MIM"s on ebay, but they're not always advertised as such. You've just got to know what you're looking at.
