baboom
Here's my first recording on bass, but since it was made last week I'm going to claim it doubles as both my earliest and most recent. It's our very own alt southern rock Christmas number - Enjoy ;-)
WHUFC BASS
Found another one! Produced by Paul Gray of The Damned
Great track, reminds me of early Saxon (as does the other track) which I suppose was contemporary at the time. Doctor J
From 1994 here's some Old Scratch, basically we improvised pretty much everything except the song titles, which got progressively more awkward to make things hard for our vocalist reading set-lists at gigs. With that in mind, I present Mystical Wizard Of The Unknown Information Transformation Formation Proves His Point Yet Again We honestly thought we were visionaries at the time and even got that played on national radio a few times From more recent times, a music forum over here was having a theme-based song thang, the theme being Superheroes, so I recorded all of this in my sitting room, even the drums The Hawk

It's Stephen Hawking, obviously edit: presumably that is why it is called "The Hawk". V. Clever, love it. LiamPodmore
I'll use my band for this: Something old(ish): Oct 2010 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EzjL-iG5pY Something newer: Nov 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpCJuBC7DLk&feature=relmfu We still play the first song (And i know the recording is dire) but a totally rewritten version, that prompts the use of a fuzz, envelope and wah for me so it's much more fun. johnthebassist
Wicked idea, I like it. My Golden Mouldy is "Radio Scum" - a hideously hilarious *radio jingle* I created for a college assignment many years ago. My mate Tom and I had masses of fun recording this on a 4-track in my Mum's kitchen in Penzance. Shame we forgot about any kind of click-track - Ben the drummer had to guess when to come in. You can't tell though, honest. The offending 4-string is my old Fender Wazz (a Mexican Jazz cunningly adorned with the red "W" sticker from a VHS tape) through a Marshall B150 "cube of vom". And "Occupy" is my something new. It's a London Afrobeat Collective tune, recorded earlier this year. You can find it on iTunes and Spotify too, if you're not a Soundclouder. I used my Warwick Streamer Stage II and a Line6 M9 for this, mic'd and DI'd. Still really pleased with that low-mid growl - it's the first tune I recorded with my Warwick (having wanted one since 1998).

vintage_ben
Three tracks from old(ish) to new, 1998, 2004 and 2012. The first two are tunes by my old band, the last is one of the band's old song which I played on for another artist. https://soundcloud.com/benny_bass/sets/somethingoldandnew The first track I suspect was my old Stringray 5 plugged direct into the desk. The second played on an early 80s '57 reissue P-Bass (maple board) DI and Mic'd through an SWR SM400 and Henry 8x8. The last was a Sadowsky, rosewood board P-bass through a vintage Pultec EQ and into the desk. Enjoy

I like the middle one best, but the last one is very good indeed but needed a more sensitive mix for me, it's too full and loses punch and vocal definition. But really bloody good! A bit like when Trevor Horn did that Tatu record with those two Russian girls. You couldn't fit anything else in the mix!
