coffee_king
Fender 70s Jazz Bass Made in Mexico 2008 Saddle Allen Key size? Hey There Just purchased a second hand 2008 Made in Mexico 70s Fender Jazz Bass for a wicked price like this http://www.andertons.co.uk/Products/i/xl__0132000300.jpg I brought a 30 piece metric & imperial allen key set and I've adjusted the bullet truss rod with a 1/8 allen key But none of the allen keys fit the saddles. Its slightly larger than 1/16 but not as big as 5/64 Its slightly larger than 1.3 but slightly smaller than 1.5 Does anyone know the exact size imperial allen key as I'm going to have to order a separate one. Thanks!
The Bass Doc
Most Mex bridges I've encountered adjust with a 1/16th - perhaps your grub screws have been worn by use of the wrong allen key in the first place?

Can pretty much guarantee that oversized allen sockets would have been caused by someone in the past using a 1.5mm allen key on it and rounding the edges ever so slightly. coffee_king
Hey This thing is like brand new and looks to have never been touched/set up. Nothing is rounded off. 1/16 will not fit in it its too big. Does anyone know what allen key is in between 1/16 and 5/64? Otherwise I'm guessing I'm looking for a 1.4 (if either of these things exist) TA
spinynorman
Thread on Talkbass suggests some MIM may be metric http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=341956

I got a complete set of keys with my MIM JB - they were tucked in the plastic bag with the instruction manual if that helps?
coffee_king
I brought this second hand, but honestly its like new. It did not come with any allen keys though. Nothing is rounded off. I have no idea how I'm going to sort this.

If your set doesn't come up with an exact fit then you'll have to make do with the nearest one. If you are worried that you might round the head off by doing this then you could slacken the string before you try adjusting the saddle - that'll let the grub screw turn easier - far from perfect but it's the best I can come up with I'm afraid. Thanks!
Even though you say it's larger than 1.3 - it's most likely a 1/20" or 0.050" or1.27mm sorry these people are out of stock, but you'll find a lot of 'good' sets come with a 1.27mm in. EDIT: BTW your sizes 'bigger than/smaller than' don't measure up! I have in front of me a selection of Bondhus keys which measure:- 1/20"/0.050" = 1.26mm or 1.27 as shown, 1/16" = 1.58mm & 1.5mm = 1.50mm. So a 1/16" key is bigger than a 1.5mm.
