RIM Basses Posted July 17, 2007 Author Posted July 17, 2007 Cheers Dave, glad to see people are into the headstock design. Its alot of work but I just love the method and the look. Got the fretboard on one of the other 5 strings today, still waiting on Alex's wenge board to come out of customs! Cheers, Robbie. Quote
Gizmo Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Hey robbie Looking great as always,if you dont mind me asking where do you source your wenge, purpleheart & Amazaque from (i can only seem to find Amazaque in pen and blow blank sizes) Do you have a UK based seller/lumber shop or are you shelling out £££'s in shipping from oversea's sources? Sexy routers btw just like clamps you can never have enough of them Cheers Steve Quote
RIM Basses Posted July 17, 2007 Author Posted July 17, 2007 (edited) Hi Steve, Got my last neck stock from Soundwood in Derby, www.craft-supplies.co.uk Im going to have to start looking for different suppliers as they are running out of stock, may need to start set necks after this batch. I just love the thru necks, Yandle and sons in Matlock, are good for purpleheart also. Im gonna have a day out on a wood run soon. Good luck bud, Robbie. Edited July 17, 2007 by RIM Basses Quote

RIM Basses Posted July 23, 2007 Author Posted July 23, 2007 Hi Guys, Well finally I got hold of the stock of 36 inch boards today and now Ive glued Alex's fretboard on, so things should now get moving on the bass. 36 inch boards, can you guess the woods! Alex's board All glued up now! Cheers, Robbie. Quote
EdwardHimself Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 hmm i always thought the first fret would be longer with a 36" scale. Oh well. Quote
alexclaber Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Do my eyes deceive me or are most of those fretboards 36" scale? Alex Quote
Alpha-Dave Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007
36 inch boards, can you guess the woods!
Left to Right, I'd guess : Olive-Ash : Zebrawood : Wenge : Ebony : Kingwood Quote
RIM Basses Posted July 25, 2007 Author Posted July 25, 2007 Hi All, Thats right Alex bud they are all 36 inch, Dvae you where close on the woods but instead of Olive ash we have cocobolo and the far right is Bubinga. Well today we have the taper on the neck done and the offset for the figured top. Looks like I may need to extend the length of the body a touch to get the scale length to work, its looking nice so far. Cheers, Robbie. Quote
alexclaber Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 We're going with 4mm aluminium side dot markers (simpler than LEDs and should be pretty easy to see!) and Robbie's hunting for a nice single piece of ash for the top. And 16" fingerboard radius - matching that built into the Q-Tuners. Alex Quote
RIM Basses Posted August 13, 2007 Author Posted August 13, 2007 Hi Guys, Well Im moved into the new house and I will be busy this week getting all side markers fitted and necks profiled. Cya, Robbie. Quote

RIM Basses Posted August 20, 2007 Author Posted August 20, 2007 Hi All, Well today I rasped the volute in on Alex's bass and fitted two more 4mm Ali dots at the 12th fret, an idea from Alex. Going to be ordering the Stainless frets which will be 2mm x 1mm high mandolin style. Cheers, Robbie. Quote
