Brother Jones
I've had a 1978 Jazz for about ten years now. The original body, in black, is absolutely horrible - very heavy and with a completely knackered finish (totally crazed and flaking). A few years ago a local luthier put a pretty good swamp ash aftermarket body on it and it plays very well now. But I'd like to source an alder sunburst body for it with a bit of relic'ing (not too much though - it's only a '78). I'm not sure Bravewood (if he's still going) would be willing to do a relatively small job like this - can anyone suggest an alternative UK source for such a thing? Thanks. Jean-Luc Pickguard
You can get an unfinished or sunburst alder body comparable to a japanese Fender (ie probably made on the same production line) from Brandoni in Wembley - if they still have them. A '78 will not relic in a cool way like 60s one, it would be more normal for it to have just picked up dents & scratchs rather than bare patches & mojo. warwickhunt
£70-£80 gets you a blank that you can have finished any way you like. I This one was alder with alder cap front and back, i.e not block laminated like post 65 jazzers, I wanted a workaday copy my '63 jazz, the body ended up CAR, it weighs nothing and very resonant. It now has gotoh vintage tuners, 201 bridge, wizard pickups, warmouth neck. Awesome guitar! But you will end up sending serious mone Obviously it wasnt labelled a Fender! PM me and I will give you his details
Brother Jones
No thanks Tino . Thanks for the suggestions guys. I think Brandoni might be a good option - assuming I can ask them to make sure it's a three-bolter.
BassBod
Second vote for Brandoni - they used to do unfinished or sunburst. Good quality, and a good "fender" fit, if there is such a thing. Give them a call? I'd also suggest Wesley Steed...although I understand he's a busy boy these days, so it might be a higher budget/longer timescale than you'd like. But its going to be an improvement over the original.
JTUK
Depending on the quality you want, but I'd start with Sims as I know their work.
