Pete Academy Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 When you play the bass part to a song, most people don't recognise it. What bass lines would you say the average non-musician could recognise? Billie Jean Peaches Good Times/Rappers Delight The Chain/Formula One theme Another One Bites The Dust What would you say is the most recognised? Quote

Someone played that line at last years south-east bash and I didn't recognise it. Quote

Lozz196 Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Think most people would recognise the bassline to Another One Bites The Dust. With many other basslines, such as New Years Day by U2, or Town Called Malice by The Jam, these may be generation specific, but ABTD has been played so much over the years, on radio, tv etc, it has to be the most recognised. A few simple notes, thats why John Deacon was so important to Queen - he let the flash boys do their work, and just stood there keeping the music steady. Quote

Doddy Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 I wouldn't say people would know 'Word Up'. Maybe 'I want you back'? Then again, maybe not. Quote
Pete Academy Posted November 20, 2010 Author Posted November 20, 2010 It proves how important the bass part is to people recognising the song. Quote
