Doddy Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 There certainly are a lot being mentioned that the vast majority of people wouldn't have a clue about. Quote

EssentialTension Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 There's loads being mentioned that I haven't got the slightest idea about the bass line, I don't even know the song, and sometimes don't even know the band. Quote

purpleblob Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 (edited) Well being that Bernard Edwards bassline for Chic's "Good Times" also appears in Michelle Gayles "Happy Just to be with You", The Sugar Hill Gangs "Rapper's Delight", Will Smith's "It's all good", Beverley Knight's "Made it Back" and I think all were pretty big sellers - then this is THE bass line everyone probably recognises most (musicians and the general listener). EDIT: Even has it's own wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Times_(Chic_song) EDIT2: Oh and for people with no interest in music it's got to be that small fragmant of Fleetwood Mac's The Chain, solely because it's the F1 theme Edited November 21, 2010 by purpleblob Quote
Bassman Sam Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 For guys like me in their '50's, Badge by Cream is a nice one. Quote

EDIT: Then again it's played in unison with the guitar maybe peope wouldn't even notice the bass, so you may well be right EDIT2: If you're a certain age - MC Hammer's Can't touch this is pretty recognisable Edited November 21, 2010 by purpleblob Quote

leschirons Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 I would guess the man in the street is only likely to put a name to the song where the bassline actually starts the song. I don't think the punters would recognise anything I play, but then again nor do the band. Quote

Them: "Oh your a musican - what do you play?" Me: "I'm a bass player." Them: "That's a guitar, right?" Quote
icastle Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 Kinda loathe to suggest it but... "You're the one that I want" from Grease..? Quote
