Skol303
I'm thinking of picking up either Amplitube or Ampkit for the purpose of 'quiet' practicing at home: Amplitube: http://www.ikmultimedia.com/amplitube/features/ Ampkit: http://www.agilepartners.com/apps/ampkit/ My question is: which one's best? From Googling, it seems as though the Ampkit LiNK is a better product than Amplitube iRig connector, and works with both products. Ampkit also seems like a more stable piece of software, but is more costly in terms of buying the necessary add ons. Whereas amplitube is more user-friendly, but suffers a bit in terms of sound quality (according to people's reviews). If anyone here has experience of using both (or either), then I'd be interested to hear your opinion. Cheers!
dave_bass5
There are a couple of thread on here, one started by me, on the Amplitube kit but ive not read anything about the Ampkit. For what its worth i had the iRig adapter and didn't get on with it. Using passive basses i just couldn't get a clean enough sound, even though the levels seemed ok on the screen. I know others find its ok so maybe i was just expecting too much or mine was faulty. It seems like a good idea but i much prefer my Korg Pandora for silent practising at home/gigs. Shire
I was considering both options you mentioned but in the end went for the Vox Amplug: http://www.voxamps.com/amplug/
tayste_2000
Personally I really like the Amplitube kit, I'm using it on an Ipad I got the free version and then bought the Bass amp and it was on offer so was around £1.50. I think it sounds better than the Korg PX3b and 4b i've owned, true this is just as a practice headphone amp and not as an effects processor but it's just handy having everything in one device that I can take everywhere with me. Skol303
Thanks for your comments here folks, appreciated. Having weighed up the different options on offer, I've ended up buying a Vox Amplug (Bass): so far I'm finding it very convenient and the sound is surprisingly good, though the build-quality is on the shoddy-side, to be honest (I wouldn't want to drop it, put it that way!). What swayed me is that I can use it in conjunction with my pedals, by plugging the Amplug into the last pedal in the chain (where I'd normally output to an amp). I'm sure there's a danger of overloading it this way, but so far I've yet to break it... Well worth the £30 in my opinion, especially if you need something for quiet practice at home.
