alexisonfire Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Hi All, I'm after your usual good advice. I'm thinking of having my P bass refined after trying to 'relic' is like an absolute d***k head a couple of months ago. I originally went to Manchester Guitar Tech but he's booked up until into next year. He recomended Spectrum Guitar Finishes. I have received a quote of (including fitting of Seymour Duncan SPB-3) : To: completely strip old finish back to bare wood. £35.00 To: remove neck & all parts, wire in new pickup, refit parts etc. & carry out set up. £50.00 To: prepare & lacquer in 'Vintage White' nitro cellulose, flat & polish etc. £220.00 Other comments they have noted are: We are a U.K. company that has recently relocated to Spain. We would arrange courier collection from you, this costs £24.00 We would courier back to you using Fedex FREE OF CHARGE. Turn round time is 4 weeks (because of the cellulose) from the time we receive it. I would really appreciate your opinions on this one as I have never had such work done to my guitars. Thanks guys! alexisonfire Posted November 22, 2010 Author Posted November 22, 2010 It doesn't look reliced! It just looks a mess lol! I guess I could get in contact with that guy and see if he can take my 'chop shop' and relic it properly from what I've done as I do like reliced basses. My problem is that it hold sentimental value so I don't really want to sell! Quote

For another option, try Bowfinishing - http://bowfinishing.co.uk/page5.htm - OK, the website may not look the best but their work is flawless. alexisonfire Posted December 9, 2011 Author Posted December 9, 2011 Sorry to pull this thread up again, just want one last shout out to see if anyone has used these guys before! Im on the verge of sending it to be done (just need to box up and send the dimensions to him etc). Overall quote is £310 for the lot. Quote
MB1 Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 MB1. Cant figure why you reliced it, if it holds sentimental value? anyway! I would try and get the bass refinished LOCALLY, there are too many hazardous variables shipping it me thinks? Quote
brensabre79 Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 Yeah do it locally. And I wouldn't bother with Nitro, on an '05 P It was probably Poly to begin with. I'm sure you can get it done cheaper than that. I wouldn't send it in the post, no siree! How much is a finished allparts/warmouth P body these days anyway? Quote
alexisonfire Posted December 12, 2011 Author Posted December 12, 2011 Jaydee quoted £185 with a 6 month wait, which Im tempted with. The reason I want nitro is because it ages/relics through normal use which is what I like, where as poly (if looked after) won't. Quote
