My friend runs a music shop and is forever setting up badly set up guitars from Argos that customers have brought in. The danger longer term is that the little shops like his will get pushed out of business. Then of course everyone will moan when they can't get strings on a Saturday afternoon pre-gig. From my experience then, I'd say the tuner (which looks identical to the one they're offering here) is not very good - save your money and buy a proper one. The music stand they do, however, is excellent - well made and sturdy.

Pete Academy
This has been the bane of real music shops for years, ever since Argos started doing musical equipment. You can't stop it, so you have to just hope people will come into a proper music store and get the right advice. However, in these cash-strapped times, you can't blame people for shopping at these discount stores. Who needs advice on a guitar stand? I had a customer come in today, looking for a guitar for her young daughter. She went to Argos first and was completely confused. But Lidl? 4-string-thing
£7 for a guitar stand? Thats outrageous, I bought 3 from CPC for a tenner a while back! When I bought my first bass back in 1977, a Top Twenty, anyone else start on them? You never saw them in proper music shops, only in Woolies or The Andertons catalogue. It's been going on a long time. Hopefully the people who buy these things soon graduate to decent instruments from good, local musical instrument stores. AndyTravis
Saw an acoutic guitar in a local 'Quality Save' this afternoon. Failed to see the quality, although I did save the £20 they were charging.
Mykesbass
Wilkinson had a guitar and amp package £100 reduced to £40. Unusual as it wasn't the generic strat that everyone else seems to go for - in fact, the picture looked quite good. Just found it: http://www.wilkinsonplus.com/content/ebiz/...8/0295038_l.jpg -0 bugg3r my old boots, they've sold out. Look out techs on 29th December, you're going to be busy!!!
Pete Academy
I remember way back when Argos started selling guitars. The music shops were pissed off with Yamaha, Fender etc for supplying them. If you broke a string on your guitar, Argos would simply replace the whole package. Frustrating, but there's nothing we can do about this. There are some people that are wary of going into a music store because they feel intimidated, so they feel safer in Argos.

The DiL was with us and 1 I don't think he liked having to be wedged in the corner of the shop to see the basses and 2 he's a bit old school and doesn't appreciate blokes with weird hair doo's and make up We were just glad the usual shop assistant wasn't wearing the pink make up this time.
