Russ
I've played a few. They're pretty bloody awesome... if you get a good one. Unfortunately they're subject to that patchy quality control that you seem to get on midrange Fenders. Try before you buy, but the good ones are every bit as good as any high-end Jazz you can think of. I'm seriously considering one - the 5-string version. bassjamm
I tried one out not so long ago...baring in mind that i'm normally playing an F Bass, so something in another league to this... I thought the sound was wicked, for a live bass, you couldn't really go wrong, loads of umph...very phat, very big, would really fit into a Funk/R'n'B/Soul setting nicely, well, anything i guess, i just eq'd it to suite my sound...which it did nicely. Having owned a rather wicked USA Jazz, i was a little put off by it's build quality, but i get the feeling this is very different from bass to bass within this range...so getting a good one would be wicked! All in all, if i were after a modern version of the Jazz, and had a mid-range budget, this would be my choice!!!
peted
I tried one about a year ago and loved it. It's a Fender, but modern and all the 'upgrades' that you'd do to a regular Fender bass anyway.
