rob_89
Hi all, Im considering buying the Ashdown Mag range as my new gigging rig as ive just got back into gigging after a short while off. ive read through the impedance thread but ive been left with a headache! If i was to get: http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~A...ead~ID~3074.asp http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~A...Cab~ID~1450.asp and http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~A...10T~ID~2053.asp then would these be suited to each other - be safe to use and would it get the full power of each cab?? Advice gratefully recieved!!!! Rob
Mog
T'will be the finest. Each cab will get roughly 150 watts each when both are connected. I reckon the head pumps about 200-230 watts with one 8ohm cab attached so if you need a smaller rig for a particular gig then it will also be fine with whichever cab you choose. Not a bad rig for sub £
Jean-Luc Pickguard
My previous rig was the old versions of the MAG 300 head with MAG 210 & 115 deep cabs. It all sounded great together and plenty of volume. I'd still be using it now if I hadn't upgraded to lightweight single cab alternative. The current versions look much better with tolex rather than carpet & the new grilles on the cabs. I used to take out just the head & 210 for smaller gigs/rehearsals
rob_89
Thanks for the replies gents. Ive been scouting the net as im not all too keen on the Ashdown head, and the Hartke LH500 looks pretty good for the money and ive read some good reviews. http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~H...00~ID~12217.asp Just wondering about the facts and figures though. With it been a 500w at 4ohms, does this mean each 250w at 8ohms will get exacly that; 250w each as when theyre both connected together its at 4ohms?? Am I thinking down the right lines with that one or on the wrong ones???! Help please! Thanks again. Rob
ThomBassmonkey
If something gives 250w at 8 Ohms, the theory is that it should give 500w at 4 Ohms, but since they're not 100% efficient, it's actually less. Most amps work from the 4 Ohm figure though, so if it's 500w at 4 Ohms, it's more likely to be around the 325w mark at 8 Ohms. If you have two 8 Ohm cabs, they'll get roughly 250w each, but if you just use one 8 Ohm cab, it'll be more.
Ghost_Bass
This setup is fine. The amp puts out 300W@4ohm/180ishW@8ohm so you can have three situations: 1. Head + 210 - You'll be getting 180ishW 2. Head + 115 - You'll be getting 180ishW 3. Head + 210 + 115 - You'll be getting 300W (the amp divides equaly it's power betwen both cabs - 150W to each) In every case scenario the cabs will have more power handling than what they are recieving so no problem with damaging them. edit: just saw the LH500 post, it'll deliver 250W to each cab. I don't know the figures of each cab but they'll be in the limit if you run your amp flat out... but why on earth would you ever do that? If i was to choose i would get the LH500 and start with a single Harke Hydrive cab (112 in my case but you could go for either 115 or 210) and save up for a second cab in the future (another 112 for my taste).
