Pikefloyd Posted June 2, 2007 Posted June 2, 2007 This was interesting... http://www.myhometheater.homestead.com/splcalculator.html I have a potential 127dB SPL at 6 feet away from my speakers! Dropping output power from 480 Watts to 200 Watts only reduces SPL to 123dB Think I might need to turn down a notch or two! Quote

The general rule of thumb is that if you find yourselves shouting to be heard in conversation at a distance of one meter then the ambient level is too loud and you should be wearing ear protection Quote
MoJ Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 (edited) C**p! Im potentially looking at 130 dB at pratice! My drummer would be getting around 120 dB,and thats only me playing.I wonder how loud the whole band gets! Nice to see the threshold of pain is 120 dB! Of cousre,I do wear plugs though Andy Edited June 3, 2007 by MoJ Quote
bass_ferret Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 This legislation is cause for concern. It was in the news this week with the last night of the proms being too loud with all those people singing Land Of Hope And Glory. It could see the return of the dreaded volume cut outs! For the younger members these were very popular at lots of venues and had an orange light that came on if the volume was too loud and the power cut out if the light stayed on for too long. At some venues a rimshot on the drums was enough to cut the power and I cut the power at one venue tuning up with harmonics. Quote
warwickhunt Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 6 feet away I'm looking at 139.9db You do have to consider that these readings are probably calculated at your amp maxxed out, which it never is! Quote

bass_ferret Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 I was lucky to be there the last time the Who played in Swansea. If the Ox had been there they would never have got away with only tripping the power three times. Quote
