Will be joining the club this week when my 4003 Mapleglo arrives. I'm assuming it has rounds on but I'd like flats. So what flats are recommended for a Rickenbacker? I like mid to high tension BTW.

I have TI flats on mine. Once you get used to the low tension they are fine, and sound surprisingly  "clanky". Might not suit a player who really "digs in" though.

I tried TI's on a Precision and they were not for me. The tension and gauge just didn't suit. And I guess I do 'dig in' when playing.

Shouldn't there be a "Made In U.S.A" visible on the decal? There is on my 4003.

There might be a clue in that.

This happened to arrive in the post yesterday :)

It's returned. Massive thank you to Prowla for selling it back to me a year after I sold it to him. New black pickguard, TRC and thumb rest thanks to Rickysounds. New band first meet in a couple of weeks, so I think this will be the bass to take.

I am still feeling a bit odd after that - I'm not used to selling Rics!

Still, I do have 7 left...

Nice meeting you & chatting, BTW!

I did contemplate buying that 64 off Chris.

I had a chance to buy a ‘64 about 2 or 3 years ago, but would have had to sell my Azure ‘72 to help fund it and in the end I just couldn’t do it. I still occasionally wonder whether I should’ve though….

It’s a bit thick at the nut end, not the most svelte of profiles.

Depends what you like. I prefer them to a Jazz profile. I’m not keen on extreme neck taper and I can’t say I spend a huge amount of time on the first few frets. 😉

My recently acquired 4003 with the Yammy and Pbass.

I put a cheap(ish) set of flats on the Ric the other day just to try and they won't be coming off! I have found the tone I've wanted for so long.

It’s liveable with but I guess I’m just more used to Jazz type profiles (my ideal is the MM Sterling - best neck in the bass world for me). In the band I play in I rarely need to spend much time above 12th 😉

I spend as much time above the 12th as below it!

I recently joined a Deep Purple Tribute, having never really paid them much attention in the past, I was pleasantly surprised by the bass playing. Not only that but it’s given me the opportunity to gig my Rics again.

There’s some great bass playing in Deep Purple.

Well, partly inspired by this thread - and thinking that the likes of Squire, Lee, Macca etc couldn't be wrong - I bought a new jetglo 4003 (2021 edition with unvarnished fretboard). Sadly it just doesn't sit right with me ergonomically - unfortunately I modded the bridge pickup with the Tube Ampology thumb rest bezel that most Rick users seem to do (from Rickysounds) and this of course invalidated my ability to send it back to the retailer. Its only 1 month old! Gah, live and learn. EBay it is

Try FB Market place (the Bass Guitar one...) also, mine sold in 20 minutes on there.  They are fetching top dollar at the moment 😉
