That's a pretty serious knockdown. These basses haven't been a commercial success and I don't know for how much longer RIC will carry on with them. They have previous form for abandoning 5-string basses. I didn't buy mine as an investment, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them start appreciating somewhere down the line. Fixed with the V2 Ric bridge.

I thought it looked more like the older 4003 bridge than this?

Richard R
Had the day off today and had time to go to GuitarGuitar in Brum and play their 4003s/5. Interesting... Took a lot of faffing to get the sound I wanted, and completely different to play than mine, but I rather liked it. Not enough to spend over £2k mind you! Yep - a Schaller 3D (that's what they put on the 4004 and on the 4003s/5).

I know it makes me a heretic, but I also like the combination of the maple neck with oiled walnut body that Rickenbacker have done in recent years. Clarky
Reviving this thread with my recently acquired 1973 4000-to-4001 conversion. Loads of mods (tuners, bridge, bezel, controls and extra pickup) but loving it - even the crudely carved "Crue" in the body! Nice slim neck and ultra low tension TI strings to suit my knackered left hand. Edited October 21, 2023 by Clarky

I don't like how they've shifted the bridge away from the end of the body; it looks like they're copying Chickenbackers!
