Who knows - I might pick up another at some point; there was one going on FB for £1200 for a while and I was almost tempted.

£1200? That's a pretty serious knockdown.

These basses haven't been a commercial success and I don't know for how much longer RIC will carry on with them. They have previous form for abandoning 5-string basses.

I didn't buy mine as an investment, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them start appreciating somewhere down the line.

I'd rather have your Gus!

Agree.......but maybe the previous owner fitted it as an attempt to fix tail lift that affects some original Ric bridges. Fixed with the V2 Ric bridge.

It's not the bridge - just the surround.

I might try a V2 bridge/tailpiece on one of mine.

Is that the original fitment bridge?

Looks to me like a Schaller 3D roller bridge with a decorative surround to look more like the size/shape of the original fitment bridge/tail piece.

Had the day off today and had time to go to GuitarGuitar in Brum and play their 4003s/5.  Interesting...

Took a lot of faffing to get the sound I wanted, and completely different to play than mine, but I rather liked it. Not enough to spend over £2k mind you!

Yep - a Schaller 3D (that's what they put on the 4004 and on the 4003s/5).

I would say this wouldn’t I, but Walnutglo with check binding just looks great.

I know it makes me a heretic, but I also like the combination of the maple neck with oiled walnut body that Rickenbacker have done in recent years.

Reviving this thread with my recently acquired 1973 4000-to-4001 conversion. Loads of mods (tuners, bridge, bezel, controls and extra pickup) but loving it - even the crudely carved "Crue" in the body! Nice slim neck and ultra low tension TI strings to suit my knackered left hand.

The new Rics are beauties.

I don't like how they've shifted the bridge away from the end of the body; it looks like they're copying Chickenbackers!
