The latest edition, and finally after wanting a Ric for years.
Azureglo? I've always wanted one in this colour since seeing one in Charing Cross Road many, many years ago.
'Tis a thing of beauty!

Beautiful. Only one problem. It seems your Ric's pickup selector switch is broken. It looks like it's stuck in a position that sounds terrible! I would take it back, get a refund and make sure the replacement has the switch in the middle position, or even better pointing down. Better still, just get one with one pickup.

No switch, no problem!

No. Really. You know it makes sense ...

And I think the "so-called" neck pickup is a good 1/4in, maybe more, south of where it should be.

Thanks Everyone :)

We went to Guitar Guitar in Epsom last weekend (just "happened" to be passing). I wanted to try out the Gibson Midtown Semi as I wanted a woody thump for my new project.

I tried the Gibson out (lovely lovely) and saw the Ric sitting in the corner and had to give it a go. It was love at first sight, but way too expensive. Alice preferred the sound of the Ric but I decided to have a think about it. I guess my mind was made up for me! :)

They are great in Guitar Guitar in Epsom! I got my 2012 Walnutburst from there! It's still to this day the best sounding and playing bass I've ever played! I really hope you enjoy your 4003W and gave it a good going over at band practice, I certainly just gave mine a good run out!

Nooooo

I love neck pickups! Amazed how few people seem to use them on their own

That's a beautiful Ric. Congrats, and best of playing with it.

Funny, I'm selling my Ric as I don't think it will get the use it deserves, however I'm going to have to show a lot of restraint and not go looking for a 4003w when it sells! I wasn't sure about the maple board at first but your pictures just look stunning :)

Does the toaster pickup sound better?
For the sound I want, yes, much better. I never got the sound I wanted until I got my first toaster-equipped Ric.

One last set of glam shots before she sadly goes on evil bay. 1980. 4001 for you Ricky fans, not sure what the colour is called.

Very nice. The the colour looks like Rickenbacker's "autumnglo" to me, which is a relatively rare colour.

I think you're right about the Autumnglo finish.

Thanks Mart, I do love the finish on this one.

My first Ric 10+ years ago was a FG - was nowhere near as nice TBH. Only had the smaller inlays, no walnut wings, and always sounded like it was being played through a muffler!

I picked this one up last year, and it's been my go-to ever since. The good ones are out there.....!

My 1977 Rickenbacker 3001 bass with original case. It's the heaviest bass I own at around 10lbs so it's not my favourite to gig with but it sounds great in the studio.
