I'm just back from holiday and these last two Fireglos will have me playing mine lots today. I'd be interested in your opinion of the sound of those nylon wraps gsgbass.

I like the snappy thud with one setting, and a stand up bass sound with another on the Ric in the amps Vintage Channel. If I work the gain, and the blend on the Overdrive Channel, I get nice deep mellow sound. I think they're pretty versatile on the 4003.
Thanks for that.

Glad to see this thread is doing well!

Question for guys who own Rics with the toaster/horseshoe pickups (V63, C64, CS sig, C64S macca sig) - is your horseshoe pickup cover magnetic?

I'm asking as my 4003s has this pup configuration and the horsey cover IS magnetic - but I know this is pretty unusual and can't find out any info as to why mine is...

I have this 4003W coming, in about a week.
Oh, the anticipation; looks great (of course).

I didn't know they did a 4003s with horse shoe so it may be a later modification by a previous owner?
I do think they are magnetic, as unlike the "normal" bridge cover the horse shoe wrap around is metal.

Both the above comments are guesses, might be worth having a look on RickResource?
Oh my! Enjoy, especially the lightness. Looks fab with the black wrapped strings.

Just fitted a Hipshot HE6C 3/8" to my 4003s. This is the one that matches and, from web searching, fits. Er, not so much. Beware, the newer 4003s is ever so slightly tighter, about 1mm. However, after much sanding (I don't have a drill bit that large) it's on and works like a dream. In fact the action is much smoother than the Ric branded Schallers that are fitted.

That's cool with the tuners changed out.

2ND version of the El Dorado Gary, the 1st was the 2050 with an active circuit board.
Simplified and back to passive on this one.
Made from around mid 92/mid 95.
The most famous version was a signature model for some geezer called Glenn Frey

They are a touch rare!

Very nice bass, bolt on, almost Precision style neck, not as much "top" as the 4000 series but a lovely almost Zepp 11 bottom end.

Unlike most 3000's/ Hamburg's which have enough mass for their own gravitational field, at around 9lb this is light and comfortable.

Unusual, nice and practical.

I'm sure somebody like Rick's Fine '52 could tell more.

Thanks for the info Karl. Might have to keep an eye out for one of these myself.

Maybe I'll just watch the for sale forum, given that you seem to move them on almost as quickly as I do :D

I'm actually finally getting close to bass nirvana Gary (well, for this week anyway!)
I would love a real 70's P, but everytime there's a good one up (usually one of yours :P) I've got no loot due to indiscriminate bass buying. MUST stop looking at the purdy pictures.

In the very unlikely event of selling this (it is superb, best playing R*** I've had) it won't be on here.
Good luck finding one, it's the first I've ever seen in the flesh.

I suffered the danger of sitting in front of the PC and surfing bits and bobs for Rics. Anyway, long story short, I ordered one the bridge pickup bezels from Rickysounds. For those not in the know, these basically fill up the hole left if you remove the cover. I found myself occasionally catching some of the pointier parts of the assembly when playing, no cuts, but somewhat uncomfortable, so this made sense, expensive sense, but sense nonetheless. I did a gig with it last night and I have to say that it was money well spent. No catching of my digits, a nifty thumb rest (you can have them without, just flat, or with a depression in addition to the one shown below) and, I think, it looks neater than the previous gaping hole. For your visual delectation...
