Kev
name me a really cheap pedal that will have a single control that will set a volume threshold, limit volume increases after that threshold, and is really transparent. i dont need any other control, just one simple control that stops volume going higher than the set amount, and as i said as colourless as possible and as cheap as possibe. doesnt even have to be a pedal actually, anything? i have no need for the tone controls or ratios or whatever found on boss and behringers
ped
I really like the Boss one. Can't go wrong. If you have no use for the other knobs just leave them in one place, but you will definitely get the best out of it with the knobs moved around a little bit. Kev
now ya see iv read many, many reviews that the behringer limiter enhancer is supposed to be as good, if not BETTER than the boss, certainly for colouration (is that a word?) of tone
ped
I am sure it is. Go for one.
Kev
suppose i might as well, £15, i wont lose sleep if i dont like it im still curious though, is there such a pedal that only has one threshold knob, and doesnt colour??
ped
I think I have seen such a thing but to be honest you might be hard pushed to find a well priced one which is designed for the bass. I used to use the LMB3 all the time, even toyed with having it fitted into my bass at one point. You could always mount it in a custom box and hide the other controls. I found the 'enhancer' just as useful as the limiter though. Cheers ped
cheddatom
I really don't like the enhancer on my LMB-3, but it is kinda good for tuning my passive into an active sounding bass. I just have the ratio set to limit the whole time, the enhance off, the level up full, and then play with the threshold. All the controls are useful if you ever use it for something else, so, I wouldn't not buy a pedal just because it has more knobs than you need! EDIT: I've tried the berhinger and it's just as good. The enhance feature was better, but I don't use that. Edited January 12, 2008 by cheddatom
Kev
behringer it is then, cheers
cheddatom
yeh, go for it! The reason I think I don't like the enhance features is because I want my limiting at the end of my chain, but I use a lot of distortion which sounds horribly fizzy with the enhance on. Kev
yup true i use my zoom multi to enhance my passive peaveys tone in front of some of my dirt pedals, but i do have some in front of the zoom too, and if i use the enhance on them.....yuk
ped
I used to use the enhancer very sparingly to bring out a bit of extra top end definition. I used the pedal before my amplifier and used it like a 'smoothener' before my amp. Now though I get the same kicks from the XT pro and boosting 8khz a little bit. I still prefer limiters to compressors and find the comp on the front panel of the XT pro sounds (or doesn't sound, if you know what I mean) like a limiter!
