Having just joined a bunch of Jazz Musicians, I could really do with a copy of "The Real Book" but in PDF format.
I know I should really go for the printed version and carry it around, but would rather see if i can manage with printing off just the transcriptions I need.

Just buy a copy of the book. That way,if a tune is called out of it you won't be struggling because you didn't print it off.

Also if you have an iPhone check out the iReal Book app. It's got the changes for around 900 tunes. There is no melody line, but it's great if you are walking or comping.

I can heartily recommend the 'pocket changes' volumes 1 + 2, which (if you get both, with 400+ charts in each) will cover you for basically anything! Plus they are, as the name suggests, pocket sized - which is handy!

I wasn't after a freebie, just a nudge in the right direction and sorted now thanks.
May we know how you sorted it? It would be useful on this forum. Thanks.

How big does your pocket have to be? According to the description it is 417 pages :)

If you have an Iphone there is a wonderful Real book application called IReal Book. I've downloaded it and used it on a number of gigs and you can change the key too. Every song fits on one screen. Much better if you have an Ipad though.

I've been using iRealbook on my iPod for a while, I've now got the iRealbook for Mac and it's saved me hours of work already.

I've just sorted about 30 songs for a vocalist in his keys in a matter of a few hours.

It's great for learning / practice etc.

Not for Windows yet :)

Really interested in buying this, ive heard it can play the chords for you aswell as in create a backing track?
Might be false info and i should probably just look into myself!

Just wanted to say thanks to the OP for bringing this book to my attention and for those who mentioned the iRealbook app. Bought it last week but only just had chance to play with it - as Doddy mentions, no melody lines (that I've seen - not yet explored it all) but was have great fun playing along to it last night. May now have to buy some of this music to hear the originals :)
