This 'oh so cool' (genuine) forearm wear really hurts my arm when I play, and i just can't play in sleeves Grrr!
Man up I guess.
Unlike the old nitro finishes that rub through the finish on my bass is cracking and coming off more like boiled eggshell, which is ironic what with the colour n all. Edited by gafbass02

Just smooth off the edges. I had a crack in a headstock & subsequently kept putting my thumb on the crack. When I repaired the crack I sanded down around the crack & you can no longer feel it. Job done

Well I knew that mojo was infectious but I never knew it was corrosive.... :)

My lovely old Jap Squier has similar patches, and when I used it for a 12 hour recording marathon, I had marks up my right forearm akin to Nettle Rash.

Sounds mega though, so i'll take one for the team everytime I record.

edit - this photo doesn't really show what i'm on about = fail.

I'd get some of the runny superglue and catalyst stuff and seal all the edges and polish it smooth again. Or get a bound rickenbacker and the razor edge will teach you not to rest your arm on your bass.

Hmm some interesting ideas, I might try smoothing the edges with sandpaper maybe, thing is it's still spreading and even looking at it funny makes it drop off more lol. I like the worn thing but I also rather like the sonic blue! Il stick some more pics of the rest of the carnage on the finish up later if I can capture it with my phonecam

Sealing the edges should stop it going further. It is probably sweat/moisture being drawn under the edge and causing more seperation.

All natural wear n tear, earned over almost 20 years.
Sealing sounds like a plan

Joe strummer used to use what he called a strum guard.
Two or three wrist bands bound with gaffa. Was used to stop
arm getting shredded and the blood clotting up the pick ups.
