BottomEndian Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010
anyone notice Stanley on DB??????
Highlight of the video for me. Holding down the groove while the other two do their thing. Niiiice. [To be honest, around halfway through that video (about 2:10 to 2:30), I thought someone might have cheekily spliced in audio from one of Robin Koerts's parody videos. Not my cup of tea anyway, but an interesting video nonetheless.] Quote
MythSte Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Some nice elements! But im surprised at the amount of finger noise you can hear! Come on lads, tidy up yer technique like...! Quote
AndyTravis Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 I appreciate the techniques on display. I'm just moving away from enjoying this kind of bass playing, think my tastes are changing a bit. No denying Vic's prowess, Miller is more musical. Both greaat players. Quote
peteb Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Kinda like a superior Saturday afternoon in the bass section of a music shop in the 80s! Quote
Master blaster Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 i'de like to see the bit after this video. It goes into a nice groove at the end. I love some of the smv stuff, like thunder but I didn't really enjoy this video to much. The start and the end were good but i found the middle a bit hard to listen to. Particularly as BottomEndian said between 2.10 and 2.30. Quote
steve-soar Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Stan and Louis supplying all your funky needs. Quote

This is easy to see on the version of 'Beat It' they did, they all go into this slap thing in the middle, and it just cocks the groove up as much as it can be cocked up... But, they are 3 of the greatest bass players to have lived, and the three of them on a stage is great fun at times, and they're cool, and i'm not making a living from my bass playing, and they have and are. So my opinion is worth very little. Edited November 30, 2010 by AndyTravis Quote

bubinga5 Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 (edited) when you say musical it doesnt mean VW isnt....he obviously is...but in a different way... on a side note i love this.. in its own right with his chordal stuff.. the master at work.. jakenewmanbass Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 It's showboating and I guess that makes for fun at a gig, but despite liking all three players it just doesn't groove me... Quote
Stingray5 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Maybe it's the time of night and I'm feeling a tad knackered, but I have to say my attention was waning halfway through this. Pity it didn't continue on a little longer as I'd also like to have seen a bit more of Stan the man on the DB. Bass Gods all three, nevertheless! Quote
bubinga5 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 It's showboating yep thats why there there..its not supposed to be overwhelming music.. Quote
gafbass02 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I'm gonna get into trouble for this, and I love both those guys, and I didn't watch it all the way through, but I thought it was really sloppy (duck n cover!) Quote
oldslapper Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Quite quickly I ended up not listening to VW & MM. But I could have listened to SC, the drummer and the keys all day long with that nice understated, but fat, groove. Quote
JTUK Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 There was a time I could have watched and listened to this..but not now. Don't ever let those two get up on stage together and do this again. Quote
KevB Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Stanley's got that knowing look on his face that says something like 'I'm just going to sit here and look cool and keep it locked together while you two w*** yourselves silly...' Quote

I agree it is why they were there. In the context of the rest of my post it explains why it doesn't do it for me... it's personal. Quote
