Stingray5 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 For anyone who hasn't seen this before (and anyone who has), a short lesson in keeping it tight from Dennis Chambers and Gary Grainger... Quote
ezbass Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Chambers' right foot is amazing. For most of that clip DC only used snare, hi hat, kick and 2 cymbals, yet made an awesome groove. Drummers take note. Quote
JTUK Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Love DC..!!! Had this tutorial on VHS but a drummer borrowed it and never got it back. And if he plays like this now, then he doesn't pass me gigs.. Quote

Borrow isn't in a drummer's vocab. It's "me have, so it mine" obviously in said in a suitably neanderthal accent Quote
dmz Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 He he - the bees knees ! Saw this couple play with John Scofield in Long Island in 1988 - Grainger got a 15 minute bass solo ! After DC had his drum solo there was a standing ovation..... Superb band - would love to see then get together again. Quote
obi 2 kenobi Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Likewise so John scofield in Glasgow with those dudes. DC I have seen about 20 times, playing with John mclaughin, mike stern, etc, etc. He is the man Quote
dmz Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 RE The Glasgow gig - was it the "Blue Matter" tour ? - if so a drummer friend of mine saw that very same gig. Was amazed to see DC's roadie put an ANVIL inside his bass drum to stop it from moving. You couldn't make it up....... Quote
Chris2112 Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 Dennis Chambers is amazing. For me, the highpoint of his playing is the CAB stuff with Bunny Brunel and Tony MacAlpine - talk about incredible fusion! The bass playing there is also superb, very tight and focused and with a lovely Ken Smith tone going on too! Excellent video! Quote

Looking at the vid, it appears Gary has a ramp on his bass. The vid is about 20 years old. Must have been one of the first Quote
