dog
Hello. I'm newbie, and a few days ago, my wife gave me a present, one Hofner Icon Bass. Now, i'm search one amp for to learn and play only at home. I see two Warwick Amps in Thomann, Warwick Blue Cab 15.1 for 66 € http://www.thomann.de/es/warwick_blue_cab_151.htm and Warwick Blue Cab 60.1 for 122 € http://www.thomann.de/es/warwick_blue_cab_601.htm The question is, which is better at home, play with small amp to medium volume, or the big amp to minium volume? I don't know which of the two purchase!!! Thank you for your answers. Dog. Edited December 5, 2010 by dog
Balcro
When searching for a bass about a year ago, I played into a "60" in my local shop. Very nice too. Although it's almost double the money, I'd go for that one, mainly because of the convenience of having an "aux-in" socket. With that you can "play along" to tracks from various sources; i.e CD/mp3 players etc,. Put headphones on and you should be able to play along in silence. That still leaves the effects loop free for a pedal. Balcro.
dog
Thanks Balcro, I know it's double of the price, but it isn't too expensive. I know that 60.1 is more complete than 15.1. Since both fall within my budget, which will sound better at low volume? I live in a flat and therefore, can't play at high volume. For you, which has better relation quality/price? Thank you of new for your answer, and excuse my very bad english. Dog.
ThomBassmonkey
I think the 12" speaker in the 60.1 would give a much nicer tone than the 8" in the 15.1. The problem with small amps is that they distort very quickly and can sound tinny with small speakers, if you don't mind paying the extra for an amp that you won't be able to use outside your house or recording (as both of them are too small for band rehearsals and gigs) then I'd definitely go with the 60.1. A 12" speaker, in a bigger cabinet, looks like a much better option in terms of getting a nice round bass tone. There is a volume control, so you just adjust it to whatever you like (or can get away with! ) at home. But without trying them, I'd definitely go for the 12" speaker combo. I own also a Behringer BXL450A. This is a 10" speaker combo. Yes, it's a Behringer, which to some people is like talking about the Devil... but I try to listen with my ears, and I *love* the sound of this thing. It is louder than I need in the house, it's easy to carry, nice AUX input (for mp3 player, drum machine, or even a guitar via a digital modeller)... I've had mine for over 3 years now and I use it every day, no problems at all. I think it cost me Just over £100 at Thomann back then. I have an Ashdown and a TC Electronic rig too, but the Behringer is the only amp I use at home because I just like how it sounds. Just to add another idea. Big sound... no... huge sound from the smallest cab/speaker i ever had. Lot's of definition and a impressive array of tonal possibilities. I would only imagine that the Boxer 65 would be even more complete! If my boxer got broken i would definitly search under every rock for another one! I realy don't like anything from the W brand (so don't mind my anti-Wism, everybody has it's nemesis...) but for practise they should sufice. Cheers edit: mine isn't like the one in the pic, mine is older and doesn't have the gain knob (the first one).
