BigBassBob Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 First off, the instrument in question is a Gibson '67 V, not a bass. Ye I know, but I like to practice it alongside bass Right, here's the story: Over the xmas holidays, I left my house in Cardiff to stay with my folks. I couldn't fit all my instruments into the car so one had to stay put in the house. The V was unlucky and was left in the cold house while I grew fat on turkey and beer. Came home last week, basses are sound. Picked the guitar up and started playing. Thought I could feel a line where my thumb reaches over the fretboard (where the board is stuck to the neck). I had a look at it today and there is indeed an indent on the side of the neck. RIGHT. Turned the lights on and flipped it over. On the other side of the neck in the same area (where the board meets the neck) there's a crack running right down from the headstock to where the neck is set to the body. Right now I feel like I could be sick and cry at the same time. Looking back I feel like a complete tit leaving it in Cardiff now The crack isn't really bad in the sense that in most parts it appears to be under the finish but at several parts it has actually cracked the lacqeur. Any advice at all? I'm really busy with uni at the moment so I won't be able to see my guitar tech for a while. I really hope it's a mere aesthetic thing caused by temperature change (the finish's cracked but the wood's fine), and I'm dreading that it will be either doomed or f***ing expensive to repair. Cheers, BOB Quote
