phil.mcglassup Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Heeeelp!! I hope this is posted in the appropriate forum The cover band I'm in are looking for some new songs to cover and up to now have aimed for the rock/MOR type songs - our vocalist is female. Songs such as :- I Love Rock and Roll - Joan Jett Because The Night - Patti Smith Call Me - Blondie etc...etc. Problem is that my mental 'music library' is limited and the rest of my band suggest unsuitable songs to cover. Can anyone suggest any more suitable songs in a similar style -preferably with a female vocalist - that we can cover. It doesn't matter how difficult or boring the bassline, or whetheer there is any backing vocals or not, as long as it 'rocks'. Thanks in advance. Quote
The Admiral Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 A couple o suggestions : 80s big hair power ballad - 'Alone' : Heart If I could turn back time : Cher A Quote
Stingray5 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 You'll no doubt get a bunch of suggestions here, but one other would be to try the 'Genius' button in iTunes and see what that comes up with. Quote

We do a lot of Fleetwood Mac, Bon Jovi with our girly singer, All I wanna do is make love to you by Heart as well. Bitch by Meredith Brooks, You Oughta Know by Alanis Morrisette, Black Velvet. Strangely enough a new song we have started to do and always goes a storm is Born to Run,Springsteen. We knocked it up a tone and she sounds great. 25 or 6 to 4 by Chicago, rest of set is usual Sex on Fire,Dakota etc! Quote
4-string-thing Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Joan Jetts "I hate myself for loving you" is pretty good, nice and easy to play too. And the Doro Pesch version of "White wedding" Quote
Bloodaxe Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Some Usual Suspects... (although I prefer the Slade version - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHgCN9z0Tpk - Jim Lea in full effect ) Bit o' Tina: Don't rule out Zep & Purple either - a good amount of their cataloque sits quite well with female vox. Alun Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 "So What" by Pink is a gooden drunken singalong and has a fun riff to play Cheers Alun Quote

Tricky guitar part. Even our guitarist couldn't get to grips with this one so he didn't offer it as song. Edited December 11, 2010 by mep Quote

Cat Burrito Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Fleetwood Mac & Janis would be my choices. I just discovered a girl called Grace Potter who deserves to be huge but is probably a bit too obscure right now Quote

Jacqueslemac Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Anything by The Donnas. Rock + female vocalist = pretty fine in my book. Quote
Slipperydick Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 (edited) Bit obscure, but always thought Money Changes Everything by Cindy Lauper would make a great number if done by the right band. bassbloke Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 You could re-work some Republica, Sneaker Pimps and Portishead material to give it more of a driving straight rock feel. Could work well. Quote
Bloodaxe Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 How could I have forgotten this one? That'll be points on my NWOBHM card fersure Quote
