Rubbish. In work we once had to listen to this every day of the week during R2's Pop Master, we were all suicidal by Wednesday.

I'd thought some kind of hollowbody and his thumb seems to be hovering over an 'F' hole; it seems to have a cream pup surround a bit like the Gretsche or Epiphone Cassidy bass. It looks like a knurled upper strap button which should give it away to someone in the know. I'm going to agree with you though Howie.

Oh and yes a lush track (regardless of the Carpenters comparisons) with a nice tone to the bass... even if it isn't the bass in the video!

Yes I first spotted her on the later show too, as said before she does have the Karen Carpenter sound (maybe a bit of Dusty in there too?) as she sings in quite a low register for a woman. Also heard a bit of her on Wogan's R2 Sunday afternoon show yesterday. And a bit of a babe which does no harm...
Slow's a good song but I prefer this one:

Was this the bird that won X-factor a few years ago.............. :)

I must admit ive never heard of her before but i loved the first link. Its not normally my cup of tea but its something i could listen to, and the video is really classy.

I think ill have a chilled out week as far as music goes so might investigate Rumer a bit more.

Does nothing for me beyond making me faintly curious that it got a topic here - it's so insubstantial & insignificant that it's difficult to notice, and when you do actually become aware of it - it's a clone of a famous dead singer.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate it or anything. That would be a bit like hating a momentary, transient itch on your buttock. It barely exists, really. :)

Great bass player on the Jools Holland clip - with a lovely vintage P Bass tone.

Id normally think stuff like this was dull and boring, I like my soft music to be more folky, but she does something for me, I think she is great, she's no clone, and even if she was, you still need talent to clone someone like Karen Carpenter

Not sure if I've missed the bass element of the thread though

She ticks all my boxes and produced by Steve Brown who did half of Corinne Bailey-Raes first album. Rumer is a huge Burt Bacharach fan too.

There are times when her voice sounds uncannily like Karen Carpenter (no bad thing IMO) but I don't think it's fair to say she's a clone - there are just as many times when she doesn't sound like her.
