wombatboter
And a fan over here in Belgium too... nicest surprise this year had to offer (just love her voice and the music, a quiet place between all the filth my ears have to endure..) In work we once had to listen to this every day of the week during R2's Pop Master, we were all suicidal by Wednesday.
The Bass Doc
Rumer has it. OK, what's the bass at 0.45?
I'd thought some kind of hollowbody and his thumb seems to be hovering over an 'F' hole; it seems to have a cream pup surround a bit like the Gretsche or Epiphone Cassidy bass. It looks like a knurled upper strap button which should give it away to someone in the know. I'm going to agree with you though Howie. Oh and yes a lush track (regardless of the Carpenters comparisons) with a nice tone to the bass... even if it isn't the bass in the video! RhysP
"Slow" is a great song & she's got a lovely voice but the album is pretty dull.
BigAlonBass
I don't think Karen Carpenter ever sounded like she was singing down her nose............
Thunderthumbs
I remember recording Jools Holland with Rumer on that week, and it was the only part of the show worth watching. The rest got the "fast forward" treatment. Absolutely beautiful.
KevB
Yes I first spotted her on the later show too, as said before she does have the Karen Carpenter sound (maybe a bit of Dusty in there too?) as she sings in quite a low register for a woman. Also heard a bit of her on Wogan's R2 Sunday afternoon show yesterday. And a bit of a babe which does no harm... Slow's a good song but I prefer this one: Edited December 13, 2010 by KevB
dave_bass5
Was this the bird that won X-factor a few years ago.............. I must admit ive never heard of her before but i loved the first link. Its not normally my cup of tea but its something i could listen to, and the video is really classy. I think ill have a chilled out week as far as music goes so might investigate Rumer a bit more.
Bassassin
Does nothing for me beyond making me faintly curious that it got a topic here - it's so insubstantial & insignificant that it's difficult to notice, and when you do actually become aware of it - it's a clone of a famous dead singer. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate it or anything. That would be a bit like hating a momentary, transient itch on your buttock. It barely exists, really. Jon. lojo
Id normally think stuff like this was dull and boring, I like my soft music to be more folky, but she does something for me, I think she is great, she's no clone, and even if she was, you still need talent to clone someone like Karen Carpenter Not sure if I've missed the bass element of the thread though
yorks5stringer
Yes i am mega youtube posting but i glued my hands to my Mac this is great.. very Carpenters, dont suppose she meant to.... lovely soul in this track.. what a beautiful voice she has.. the only thing thats missing is some slap.. Rumer is a huge Burt Bacharach fan too.
bubinga5
i didnt mean to say that shes cloning Mrs Carpenter of course..only she and her band are a little Carpenter,esq...
RhysP
There are times when her voice sounds uncannily like Karen Carpenter (no bad thing IMO) but I don't think it's fair to say she's a clone - there are just as many times when she doesn't sound like her. wombatboter
I don't think she's gonna call her daughter "Karen".. I know a singer of a British band who called his son "Lennon" and would probably do anything to be a clone of another famous British band.
