D-L-B Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 (edited) I have a through neck, fretted bass and I want the neck narrower. I've slimmed the backs of necks down myself in the past but this might be abit too much for me to have a go at at home. Looking for people's recommendations of luthiers in the London area. I know we have a sticky topic but I'm after some advice and personal recommendations. Thanks. Edited December 11, 2010 by D-L-B Quote
bigjohn Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 I reckon you'd have to defret it. Then fret it again after you'd made the narrowings. You'd also have to be careful that the truss could handle the extra tension. Quote

I'd probably want about 2mm off each side at the nut. Width wise it currently sits somewhere between P and J. I'd imagine the neck should be able to take it as I'm not going pencil skinny with it, just like a slightly slinky jazz. Could take the oportunity to get some brass frets fitted too since they're gonna have to come off I suppose. Edited December 11, 2010 by D-L-B Quote
