OK so I got my solder iron and on the look out for good kits with a view to making my buddy a killer dirt box for his birthday ( and maybe the two guitarists in my band a s a surprise )

As well as the DIYstompbox and BYOC sites where can you recommend a noob to visit or get some good pedal schematics.

Cheers

Nope, vero needs soldering. Its the one with the track in lines which you'll need to break to stop short. Easy with a drill bit or a tool like a bradawl.

Try here for a load of layouts on various boards.

That's very handy - I was just thinking that I could really use a clean boost pedal, and here are two of them!

Would anyone care to comment on what the difference might be between the Lineal and the HardOne, other than the former has a linear pot and the latter a log pot?

I think the Lineal is based on a EHX LPB-1 and he HardOne is a Zvex SHO clone.

To TS, if you're looking for complete kits, I'd recommend BYOC over the das musikding kits after building both. Also check the BYOC forum, there's a good few vero layouts and the people there are quite friendly.

Thanks for that. In that case the Zvex clone is probably the one I'll go for.

I also found these guys: http://www.diypedalkits.com/ . Has anyone here had anything to do with them?

Kind regards,

Pete

They're run by one of the regulars over at the musicradar.com forum. I haven't built any of the kits myself but a few of the guys over there have done so and all seem happy with the results.

Well, I went for the diypedalkits clean boost pedal. It was expensive for a kit, but had the advantage of having the casing pre-drilled, something which I'm not really tooled up to make a decent job of. It works really well - I've posted a review in the reviews section here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=116827
