steve Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 hi I have a neck that has been finished in tru-oil, to which I've applied a decal, and I'm not sure what to seal the decal with. I was going to get a bit of polyurethane varnish but the sellar (an ebay shop) doesn't think it will be suitable (altho' I did say it was an oil finish, not specifically tru-oil). Any advice would be greatly appreciated tia Quote
MoonBassAlpha Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I would have thought a wipe over with Tru-Oil would suffice. I doubt it would eat the decal, and would blend fine with the rest of the head. **Caveat** I might be wrong!! Quote
Al Heeley Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Yep - I'd go for 3 or 4 light wipes with Tru-oil to seal it in. Quote
steve Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 cheers fellas, I'll give it a go Quote
steve Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 quick update, I decided it would be nice to get rid of the relief on the headstock from the decal, so I ended up pouring a thick coat of tru-oil over it (after e few thin coats had hardened) and leaving that for a couple of weeks to harden. I've just sanded it back and then wet-sanded with more tru-oil, I'll update again in a few days if anyone is interested. Quote
MoonBassAlpha Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Yes, interested. I found with Tru-Oil that it doesnt build thickness very well (for well, read quickly) I was using it to fill in some splintered areas after a defret (rosewood) You can eventually get a nice satin smooth board though Quote
