advice on lap top

Hi Guys,

well my quest to find a band locally that plays anything other than rock of sorts has failed. I will continue to play in my current band, but want to start making music my self. I was going to run focusrite saffire 6 usb, with ableton lite on my pc, however, i will never get a chance competing with my 13 yr old daughter so have decided to buy a lap top. Got around 500 quid, any advice most welcome. Either particular model or spec i should consider
