Mykesbass
Didn't really like it then, still not keen now, however, I was working for a record telesales company at the time - funnily enough one of my calls was a shop in Evesham - and house music really opened up black music to all sorts of areas. Before it there was a real split - only the big cities with a sizable black poulation would buy black music, but this stuff seemed to break down a lot of boundaries. Surprised you missed the daddy of them all:
nick
Loved House music at the time; the scene, the people, the clubs, the parties etc... but the music, with its tight repetetive rhythms & syncopated basslines influenced my playing too. Westbam, Marshall Jefferson, Derrick May etc... When it kicked off, & at it's height, it did seem like an explosion of new music Few of my favourites from back in the day! risingson
Still listen to Derrick May as well as more recent house counterparts such as Theo Parrish, Stacey Pullen, Derrick Carter and Robert Hood.

I remember flogging most of my bass gear around 90 & filling my bedroom with Atari,Akai & any old analogue keyboards I could get my hands on, thinking this is the future! No, never went to Voodoo, actually joined them later than all that. Being a Manc., my clubbing was Thunderdome, Boardwalk, Hac., Sankeys, too many Hulme parties; between 89-92. After which, I think things changed for the worse around that particular scene, plus by then I'd got it all out of my system - thank God!
