A big influence on me too. Quote
velvetkevorkian Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Just now I'm listening to Cynic's "Focus", with Sean Malone on bass/Chapman Stick. Technical metal legends, light years ahead of their time IMO. They released this in 1993, most of the rest of the world is still catching up. Progtastic. Quote
tempo Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 All the usual suspects for me! Rush's new album (err, some bloke called Geddy Lee), Porcupine Tree (Colin Edwin), Tool (Justin Chancellor), Jamiroquai (Lucky to have several brilliant players, Paul Turner gets amazing tones) Also, lot's of Bach, what a left hand! Rich Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Been listening to a lot of Gerald Veasley lately. Nnnnnice Quote

jwbassman Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 (edited) Been od'ing on the Randy Waldman Trio just lately - 'Wigged Out' - that's with your main man John Patitucci on bass and the awesome Vinnie Colaiuta on drums plus a whole host of horn players as well - although I'm looking out for the album that features Brian Bromberg in the bass chair - I think it's called 'timing is everything' - has anyone got it? The only one I've got is Unreel but have heard bits of the others and they all sound superb. You can get the "Timing.." one here but it is pricey... JoeS Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 Lately, Mastodon (Troy Sanders) and SikTh (James Leach). Two of the best metal bands around today IMO, with more than capable bass players. Quote
