JJ just manages to make the bass look like an offensive weapon. A big influence on me too.

Just now I'm listening to Cynic's "Focus", with Sean Malone on bass/Chapman Stick. Technical metal legends, light years ahead of their time IMO. They released this in 1993, most of the rest of the world is still catching up. Progtastic.

Been od'ing on the Randy Waldman Trio just lately - 'Wigged Out' - that's with your main man John Patitucci on bass and the awesome Vinnie Colaiuta on drums plus a whole host of horn players as well - although I'm looking out for the album that features Brian Bromberg in the bass chair - I think it's called 'timing is everything' - has anyone got it?

Waldman's stuff is incredible. The only one I've got is Unreel but have heard bits of the others and they all sound superb. You can get the "Timing.." one here but it is pricey...

true, i love the bass line on peaches. and the sound his bass gets is great, i love the low growl it makes
