Other than that it's just compression for me. Quote
phil.i.stein Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 punk ,rock etc. - tube overdrive, distortion funk, - not much, very occasional wah, maybe compression for slap. reggae/dub - nothing (except heavy on bass eq) or occasional octave. d'n'b dubstep - absolutely everything. blended synth, fuzz, octave, ring mod, whatever works Quote
gary mac Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 No effects for me. I did purchase a chorus pedal earlier in the year, can't remember why. Since sold and now pedal free. Quote
Happy Jack Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Nothing at all when playing with the 5-piece (including keys) ... there's no physical space for it in most of the pubs we play, there's no sonic space for most effects with all that noise going on. I use plenty (fuzz, chorus, octaver, tremelo) when playing with the 3-piece. There's a helluva lot of sonic space to be filled (or at least sketched in) when you have a slide guitar solo-ing and not much else going on. Quote
Jigster Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 none for me - could never find an overdrive that sounded good - but prefer clean sound anyway - i dabble with the idea of using a compression pedal now and then - Quote
skej21 Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 No effects here. Just a compression unit (not used for effect) and a tuner. Quote
ThomBassmonkey Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Until I got my new head I didn't use any, now I use the distortion on the head to thicken up the sound during guitar solos or heavy sections. Quote
Cat Burrito Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Bass. Cable. Amp. Job done. Nothing against effects but just not for me Quote
bobbass4k Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 If you don't feel the need for effects then you don't need them probably. Occasionaly people have a completely wrong idea about what they'll sound like so when they hear them used well it's an epiphany. I don't have 14 pedals because I wanted to buy them and then had to find a use for them, I wanted my bass distorted so it would sound heavy and aggressive, I wanted the sound a filter a makes for a funky synthy sound, I wanted the sound of delay for texture and ambience etc. Basically I wanted the sounds so had to buy the pedals to produce them. If you don't want the sounds then I'd say you're not missing out. Quote

mrtcat Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Don't use anything at all and can't see me needing them in the future. Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 I can't remember the last time I used my Boss GT6B or various pedals. All I use for gigs & rehearsals (but not always) is a cheapo Behringer limiter pedal, but to even out sloppy technique rather than as an effect. I'm not keen on chorus, flanging, delay etc on bass. Quote
warwickhunt Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 I own a Boss Chorus and Octaver and an EHX Phaser housed in a little Arion case with power-supply but my current gig requires none. Obviously I'm not adverse to using them and certain genres almost make effects a necessity. Quote
leschirons Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Have an Aphex exciter but only ever used it if switching between active and passive basses so not as an effect, just a signal boost. So, no effects. Quote
Fat Rich Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 I've got a Korg AX3000B but rarely use it. I've always played fingerstyle but now I'm starting to play with a pick sometimes I'll revisit it and see if there's some effects I like. Quote

franzbassist Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 I always like the idea of effects and have bought and sold various units in the past, for example I made up the fantastic board below, but I never actually use them! So, apart from using the limiters built into my PJB amps, I use no effects. Cheers Gareth Quote
Machines Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 I have a Zoom guitar effects pedal that works perfectly well for bass too, but I generally use it as a headphone amp only. Have had effects pedals in past but really - for me there's no point in having an expensive bass if you're going to completely wipe it's natural tone out with effects, Quote
chris_b Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 I don't know what I would do with an effects pedal. I guess I've lead a sheltered life, but I've never used one or been asked to by a band. Quote
EssentialTension Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Tried lots of effects - didn't like them. Occasionally I use a Tech 21 VTBass or an EH Black Finger to shape tone. But that's it. Quote
greyparrot Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 me just good sound hell i don't even have an amp, just plug into me mixer at gigs! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckDduGkg208 Quote
JDH Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 I don't own a effects pedal, sometimes use a little compression, but that's about it. Quote
