REDLAWMAN
I've just had the most bizarre encounter on the telephone with Mark at Bass Direct in Warwick. I 'phoned up with a view to spending close to £2,000 on two new Mesa-Boogie cabs. In a nutshell, he talked over me constantly, effectively 'slagged-off' Mesa- Boogie, Markbass and Barefaced cabs: told me I wanted a Bergantino NV 412 to go with my Littlemark THEN HUNG-UP ON ME.....!! Clearly not in need of the business......
MythSte
I'm pretty sure Mark is a member here so hopefully we can hear what he has to say

poptart
Hi Sorry - my phone died, cordless and all that technology...........my apologies but I did not have a number to get back you on. Regards Mark
REDLAWMAN
Bizarrely co-incidental in that it happened precisely after the point I asked you very nicely to please not talk over me, Mark, but in any event, apology accepted. You did, however, almost persuade me to buy the Berg' Mark and yes, I would like to come over to Warwick to play it once I can get down from this Welsh hill... dbass
He just talked you out of spending £2000 because in HIS opinion the Berggies are better AND you will save money. What's so bad about this??? It is HIS shop and HIS opinions so just take them on board as with everything else in life, not everyone will agree. I've had quite a lot of dealings with Mark and he's never bullied me (or spoken over me) into buying anything I didn't want and has always offered his opinion on gear. I've taken some on board, and some I have not. Go figure. Maybe you caught him on off day? Edited December 21, 2010 by dbass

A new phone is on my Christmas wish list ;-) Mark PS - When the snow has cleared it would be great to spend some time whizzing around a few cabs, incidentally there is a new Genz 115 cab coming out in February that looks very interesting - here - http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp..._Uber_Cabs.html PPS - I tend to talk a lot when I get excited Edited December 21, 2010 by poptart

bartelby
I had a pleasant enough conversation with Mark on the phone yesterday. I did get the impression he's a little stressed by the situation with sending out orders at the moment. Probably the busiest time of the year compounded by the weather delaying stuff. Good luck with all that Mark! Have a good christmas. Hopefully I'll see you next week!

phil.i.stein
and the lesson is.. don't always presume your perception of events is 100% accurate. and don't slag people off in public until you are certain.

pantherairsoft
Mark is a very knowledgable chap who is a pleasure to deal with. I've dealt with Bass Direct on many occasions and I'd never say Mark would deliberately talk over anyone. I'm sure Mark himself will agree that he does get a 'little' passionate about his products when he gets going (which I must add is a good thing!) and he does know a good bass tone. As such he will often point people towards alternate products if he thinks they would be worth you trying before commiting to a large purchase... and he is a fan of those Berg's. Nice to see this has already come to a positive result
