Damaging my speakers

Hiya people. My band are gigging 2moz and I'm supplying my bass combo for the gig. It's a Laney R3 (165 Watt I think). Now I SHOULD have PA support but on the off chance I don't is there any chance of my speaker getting damaged or will the amp prevent that from happening?

I've also not had this thing above 2 in about 18months so is it worth while me giving it a good loud test before we sound check?

Listen out for farting out, don't turn it up loud enough to do it. If you aren't loud enough, bump the mid and cut the bass.

really depends how big the venue you are playing at is, but like foxen said use your ears to hear what your amp is doing and adjust it accordingly.

All three bands last night used the amp and even tho I had no PA support it was more than loud enough for the venue. Did drop the bass out a tiny but as the lower notes became some what overpowering.
