TheFear
ive recently bought a second hand bass,, and after putting her through her paces in rehearsels iv noticed that my E & A strings are alot louder than than my D & G stings, is this an indication that the pick up is on its way out? or is there something more simple to do? Ou7shined
What kind of bass? Is the distance between the pickup(s) and strings even E to G?
Lozz196
Can also depend on pickup type - is it a Precision type pickup. If so, on my P-basses, which I`ve had set-up by a luthier, the pickup for the D & G is set higher than the one for the E & A. I`ve found that in these cases, if you don`t want to go to a luthier, try and see works - adjust the E & A side of the pickup by tightening the screw a half-turn at a time, until it evens out. TheFear
aria sb-r 60 string distance are equal, and i believe they are humbucker type pickups
Mr. Foxen
Pickup balance needs to be judged by ear rather than by distance. So fiddle with it till it works. If half the pickup is on its way out then it will be apparent by tapping the poles, but unless it is a split pickup (like a P type or some Dimarzio Js where there is a coil for each pair of strings) it is unlikely half will go. Cat Burrito
Quite a common problem with some Jazz basses too. I had it once and I solved it by selling the bass in the end! That was down to inexperience on my part (it was nearly 20yrs ago). New pickups usually do solve it but it's an expensive alternative if you can tweak what you have. Raising the height on one side should balance it better. I had a loud E and a loud G which was a major pain. My current Jazz has adjustable poles in the pickups so problem solved. Good luck sorting it
