BottomE Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 We all have our favourite players and tunes. What are you really digging at the moment. I'll start you off. Just re-discovered this. My bro bought the 12 inch when it first came out - he's always had better taste than me and he is a drummer! IMO, other than in daft punk songs, vocoder doesnt really sound right in in funk/soul! The breakdown of this song is quite fun to play. Forgotten about that. Also really like this at the moment - the bass is fairly simple but i love the way it is used as an intro. And the hissy sound of (i presume) tape. Yeah baby. Always pays to keep an open mind. Try this for size: The O'Jays. Is this one of the first uses of some kind of distortion on a bass? Mcgiver69 Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 When I hear the sentence "Monster bassline" I only have one thing in mind. Willy Weeks in Donny Hathaway's "Little Ghetto Boy". That's what I call bass playing. Quote

AntLockyer Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Before you point out the obvious, I already know It's still a stonking bass line (and everything else for that matter) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQsSQRWMhOs Quote
bobbass4k Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Not the most obviously brilliant bassline, but listen closely and you'll realize the bass is doing completely it's own thing, considering there's 3 guitars, it's amazing how he can still do something completely different with the bass and still keep it harmonious. He (Willy) does one of the most rythmic bass solos (owes a lot to the drummer to) which is a pure joy. Not loads of tapping (yawn) and slapping but pure and beautiful bass. Nice. Quote
