Blademan_98 Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 I was trolling the web looking for some inspiration and discovered Deon Estus. Now putting aside any feelings for Wham etc, his bass lines are really cool. What do you guys think? (of Deon Estus NOT Wham!) Cheers...... Quote
cd_david Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 (edited) Deon, Brilliant player, Wham, Great band, Great songs amazing brass arrangements. Edited December 27, 2010 by cd_david Quote
molan Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 I saw Wham's unofficial 'rehearsal' gig at the Brixton Academy for their 'official' last ever gigs at Wembley. Deon E was great, really funky and held the groove together so well. I have to own up that I went to the gig because I got free tickets from Capital Radio & only went because my wife loved Wham - however they were absolutely brilliant, great show & George M can really sing live. Of course Andrew R appeared to do nothing much other than strum a guitar & the odd backing vocal (that's assuming he wa seven plugged in!). Quote

Pete Academy Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Great playing on 'Wake Me Up' and 'Club Tropicana'. Quote
chris_b Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 I've never heard of Deon Estus but now you've mentioned him I realise I've heard a lot of his bass playing and I think he's pretty good. Quote
chris_b Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 His Wiki entry says: "His bass teacher was the late James Jamerson of Motown's The Funk Brothers." !!! envy !!! Quote
Chris2112 Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 He's a great player, he did a great job on those Wham tunes. Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 He was good as Lofty in "it ain't half hot mum" Quote

lazzer Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Always been a big Deon fan after being dragged along by a girlfriend to see Wham in their heyday! And George was superb too...... Quote
Chris2112 Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 He also played bass for George Michael too, after Wham split. He had good taste in basses too; playing Status Graphite and Kubicki basses amoung others iirc... Quote
Kiwi Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 An interview with the man himself. His solo on the extended version of I'm Your Man is brilliant (and I don't generally like solos) Quote

Tasteful as hell - Careless Whisper and Last Christmas . Whatever you think of the songs , have a listen to the bass playing - tasteful and slow builds from start to finish . Another massively underated player . Quote
Chris2112 Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 He needs to take that hideous pickup cover off! I think people can also forget what a huge talent George is. People have gotten so obssessed with the tabloid excesses of his life, but he is such a fantastic singer. Quote
guyl Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 The best thing about Wham - very funky, very cool and very musical Quote

sshorepunk Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Fun songs in the 80's, out on the town full of beer! great player, where is he now? Quote

woodster Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 Wham's last single, Edge of Heaven, has an awesome bassline ! Quote
mxm Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 Wham! rule. Some great players/playing on the 1st album through to the synth on 'Everything She Wants'. Quote
paul_5 Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 I remember hearing some Wham tracks when I was out shopping with my girlfriend in the late '90s, I also remember thinking "wow, that could be Flea playing that" turns out it wasn't, nice to put a name (and a face) to the line. Quote
