EskimoBassist
I have myself a rather nice EHX USA BIg Muff, however i am extremely curious as to why bassists prefer the Russian. The reason alone that Mr.Wolstenholme uses one is actually enough to persuade me to buy it and experiment, but in what ways would you say that it is generally better for bass than its' USA counterpart? Thanks a lot guys as always! Rich
umph
tighter lows etc etc
cheddatom
People reckon they have a "better low end", it's just a slightly different tone IMHO. I would describe it but it's been years since I tested the two together and decided neither was for me. Some people reckon I have a muse-like sound, but I don't use any of the pedals he uses for dist/od.
Toasted
I think it handles the low and high end better than the big muff PI. It's also got a different tone stack which for my money sounds better on bass. Joe.

Anyway, yeh, someone did say we sound like Linkin Park, so I guess I should ignore most opinions! Ta very much for the justin Chancellor comparison! I take it you heard the new song on the myspace? rodl2005
I tred both US & Russ.(silver & Green) models... I found the Russ-Green-one to be more bassy sounding & def. sounded better for bass IMHO. ymmv tho!
alexclaber
With EH pedals the tolerances are so loose that you never quite know what'll work well on bass until you try it. But I've tried quite a lot of distortion/fuzz pedals over the years and nothing quite does what my Russian Big Muff does. Alex
EskimoBassist
Thanks a lot for all your sound advice, as usual, ive been bidding on some russian muffs for a while on ebay, so i think il make that extra bid next time round as i'm quietly confident that it would be money well spent. Welshbassist
I hate my Russian Muff, too much low end loss. I think I'll be selling it to a guitarist I know.

happynoj
I prefer the Little Big Muff to the Russian Big Muff. I tried a Sovtek one but it just sounded too muddy with my bass and amp. The LBM sounded much better for my setup - more defined, and the low end is fine.
Toasted
Cool, I assume you're using a quite bright sounding bass and amp?
