Beer of the Bass Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 I'm about due some new strings, and was thinking of getting some from Status. Can anyone who's tried both comment on the difference between the round-core and hex-core roundwounds? Quote
Delberthot Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Aren't hex core strings a bit stiffer? Ooooooh Matron Never tried them personally but remember reading something like this on the DR website as they do both as well. Quote
garethfriend Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 yep, definitley stiffer. Wouldn't say it affects the sound much though. Quote
Dood Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Agreed - Infact if you look at the Status site and then the DR site for their explanations of the tonal differences between the two types of string, You'd be excused for being a bit confused IIRC! Quote
Owen Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 TI use round cores on their Jazz Round nickel strings. They are nice and flexi. I love them deeply. Quote
Beer of the Bass Posted January 3, 2011 Author Posted January 3, 2011 I had TI jazz rounds on my archtop guitar for a while - they were quite different from any other other roundwounds I've tried! Quote
danhkr Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 The vast majority of strings are hex core. Certain brands make round core strings and they tend to be a bit more flexible and (IMO) seem to have less mid-range. Personally I think whether the string is stainless steel or nickel makes a bigger difference to the tone than core shape. Quote
jezzaboy Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Don`t know what the differance in the type of strings are but I use Status flatwounds and they are great strings. I have bought their Premnium roundwound in the past and they were good as well. Good all round and not too expensive. Jez Quote
