In the market for a new strap. I've got a Gibson leather one, which after 2 years of use is still as stiff as an ironing board.....and digs in during a long gig!

And it's not long enough either.

So I thought I'd look at different materials. Did some searching here on BC, but most of the suggested links were overseas. I'm really after a UK based company to get one quick!

Saw these Ernie Ball's on E-bay. Good company, or so I like their basses anyway....and these are pretty cheap.....

Colour is quite cool?? My Ric is quite heavy, so it's got to be easy on the shoulder.

So has anybody tried one?

I very recently bought an Ernie Ball leather strap in the new year sales.

Thick leather, stiff as an ironing board but feels as though it could happily pull a 10-ton truck up a cliff-face :)

In other words: it seems very durable and is comfortable to wear, but please bear in mind it's still early days for me and this strap... I might hate it in a few weeks time, but so far so good.

Ernie Ball make great basses (and straplocks) but like Fender are crap at straps. I would recommend a Levy's strap or a Comfort Strap both man made materials, neither very cheap but will last for years. Have owned both for for sometime and still like new, I would recommend the Levy's it's just that bit wider and thicker. I bought mine in the States so maybe not available in the UK. The comfort strap is for sale in the gallery http://www.thebassgallery.com/BassProductL...p&Cat_ID=14 not cheap as I said but well worth it. I hope this helps.

I use a Dimarzio Cliplock strap which is very comfy and spreads the weight over the 3 inch area it takes up on my shoulder. I also used a DSL leather strap, one of the Motorhead signature ones, as well as a Planet Waves strap, I forget which one, but it was very long, which a buckle at each end, equally good at spreading the weight out.

Levy strap here too. I have the MSS2 model which padded and fairly wide but not too much so - I bought it from here but you can find them everywhere. Not cheap, but quite excellent.

I used to use the cheap Ernie Ball straps for years, but realised that they were rather awful. I wouldn't want to go back to them now.
