JimBobTTD
I play in a rock/pop covers band and a thrash covers band...I think I could pull off both bands with Cliff Burton's tone on Master of Puppets.
Pete Academy
For fingerstyle it would have to be Bernard Edwards, without a doubt. For slap, Marcus Miller. As I only have one choice I would have to go for Marcus.
lee650
For me "Abraham laboriels" tone on randy crawfords "you might need somebody" not 100% on what he used could be a fender P (he used to rent one i believe)or his goya panther maybe even a yamaha BB ( feel free to let me know if your 100% sure), it definately had flats on though, very warm and clear and the strings pops were nice and bright just lovely, totally diffrent to my sound, ive tried the p bass with flats thing and i love the sound on record but cant get into the sound coming out of my speakers

Cosmo Valdemar
Tricky... My first impulse would be to pick one of Entwistle's, but if I'm going to have to use it for all time I don't think it would suit... With that in mind, I will please take Eddie Jackson of Queensryche - his Spector tone on 'Empire' just knocks me out every time. Does this mean he will get my tone in return? Ou7shined
There's an honky honesty in Geezer Butler's early tone that I love, which could never fit in in any modern setting but seeing as we're playing the "if" game...

funkypenguin
At the moment my sound is fairly close to Anthony Jacksons. If i had to change i would go for something close to Tony Grey (fodera not Yamaha)
WinterMute
Geddy Lee circa Permanent Waves/Moving Pictures. Even his modern tone would do to be honest, but I grew up in the shadow of that awesome growl, and I'd love to sound like that.
stingrayPete1977
Some good replies everyone remember it has to be as different from your current go to sound as possible but one you love lots.

Simon.
Getting it down to one tone would be tricky. Either Herbie Flowers' classic Fender Jazz or Duck Dunn's P-bass tones would be where I'd like to end up, depending on what I was playing. Alternatively, does anyone know who the bass player/set up used on the recent BBC drama 'Zen' might be? There was some nice playing in the incidental music, and for the first time in a long time the bass tone being used really made me sit up and pay attention.
