kingbee Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Pardon my ignorance, but as a total Basschat newbie there are certain 'terms' I have still to understand. Like, 'bump', eg in relation to items for sale, What the feck does 'bump' mean? Thank you. Quote
Cat Burrito Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 It just pushes a thread back up to the top of a list and reminds people the item is still there in the hope of a sale Quote
paul h Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 It's just a way to put the sale thread at the top of the forum. Bumping it to the top as it were. TIM does the same. But that is a rather more complicated story. Quote

LukeFRC Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 ah TIM... it all involved possibly the most desirable bass known to man more or less given away that we all fell overourselves trying to get didn't it? I heard the big beef chief got trampled to death in the rush. could all be rumour though.... Quote
kingbee Posted January 6, 2011 Author Posted January 6, 2011 Cheers for all that - love some of the posted images! Just goes to show that bassists really DO have a sense of humour. Unlike guitarists. However, we do have a reputation for being thick, as I'm about to demonstrate. How does one actually 'bump' a thread back to the top? For example, I'm trying - and so far failing (76 lookers but no takers) - to sell my Ampeg cab, and my original posting just keeps slipping further and further down the list. I want to get the post noticed again - help? While on the subject, could someone please have a look at my post ("Ampeg SVT-115E cab for sale" - I'd stick in a link to it, but don't know how to do that either!) on 3 January and tell me where I'm maybe going wrong? I really don't have a clue what the cab is worth, but based on the price new (£470 at Thomann) plus the cover I wouldn't have thought I was asking too much for it. Am I just being too impatient? Any thoughts - anyone? Thanks again. Quote
daz Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 (edited) just bumped it (ie replied to it on the mesasage board) people sometimes do it themself every few days if nobody replies. Edited January 6, 2011 by daz Quote
dlloyd Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Obviously there's some etiquette involved in bumping a for sale thread. Once a day is probably the maximum you want to do it. Having looked at your advert, the biggest problem is that you don't have a photo of the equipment... it makes a big difference to buyers. Quote
charic Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 SVT!!! Further basschat folklore which was later replaced with TIM So full explanation BUMP = SVT!!! = TIM = Reply to your own thread in order to push (or bump) that thread back to the top of the listings as they are ordered by most recent post Quote
