spinynorman
I was wondering who played bass on the Al Kooper/Steve Stills version of "It takes a lot to laugh, it takes a train to cry", which led me to Harvey Brooks, who also played with Dylan, The Doors, Electric Flag and Miles Davis. Can't believe this guy contributed so much to the development of bass playing, but I'd not heard of him and I'm not aware of seeing him mentioned in any of the "favourite bass player" threads. Lots of good stuff on his Youtube channel http://www.harveybrooks.net/ And I've loved the bass on this since I bought the Rock Machine album in 1968 (but never bothered to find out who it was). Is it just me? Maybe I've been living under a stone for the last 40 years.
KevB
I was a big Doors fan once upon a time and I knew his name from the Soft Parade stuff but was unfamiliar with his other work. Here's yer man; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvey_Brooks
Cat Burrito
I too stumbled across his site the other week. He doesn't get mentioned here and must be one of thousands of forgotten heroes.
Balcro
I think understated is his trademark. Listen to the tracks "Really" and Albert's Shuffle" on the "SuperSession" album. Someone had to counter the wildness of Mike Bloomfield. Few frills, but the tracks wouldn't be the same without him. Balcro.
Cat Burrito
I've just bought an old 60s copy of his vinyl album "How to Play Electric Bass", an interesting curiosity piece if nothing else

I expect you know already.
Cat Burrito
Annoyingly the seller hasn't been in contact yet to acknowledge my payment so I hope there isn't a problem. It's been 7 days tomorrow. I too would like to know how to play 12 bar
foal30
I liked his story about meeting Miles so I wrote some lyrics about it/around it
