Kiwi Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 She's a bit like Meshell Ndegeocello so when her playing sits back in the mix its nice. But it comes across as a little egotistical when the whole band is used as a vehicle for the bass, which is whats going on in the intro in the first link. Quote
bubinga5 Posted January 7, 2011 Author Posted January 7, 2011 Well, she is a solo artist... isnt that the point... Would you say that of Victor Wooten? Quote
ras52 Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 "Message in the Music"? I thought it was going to be a cover of this one, by another IMO oft-overlooked super-duper woman. (Bass by Freddie Washington, I believe.) Quote

"That bass is almost as big as she is, but she is handling it like a pro" Priceless... Garry Edited January 7, 2011 by lowdown Quote

If a recipe was prepared in the same way, it would be like a pizza with a gnocci, pasta, tofu and potato topping. Quote

My only criticism (and I'm probably not qualified to criticise as my foray into singing and playing was pretty poor, but anyway...) is that her basslines under her vocal parts can be a bit dull and unimaginative, which means it gets bit predictable. However, she is a technically accomplished player, excellent singer, good frontwoman and very attractive, so I think, overall, she kind of comes out on top. Quote

Are bass players only allowed to play four string basses, sticking to no more than four beats to a bar, root and fifth, no higher than the fifth fret? Mr. Foxen Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I post vids of this lady whenever someone goes 'I have small hands so I need a skinny necked/short scale/miniature bass instead of learning how to play properly'. Quote
