I saw this vid and heard a lot of reactions (negative and positive) about his playing. Personally I'd say he's playing good, but sometimes a bit too much. Less is more. How about you guys? daz Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Why is he playing bass over an unrelated track. coz thats what it sounds like to me. Quote

waynepunkdude Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Awful, he should be beaten to death with his own smug. Quote
CraigPlaysBass Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I kinda liked it at the start, the two handed tapping was reasonably melodic. The rest of it :/ just didn't sound hugely musical. Oh and then he switched the bass round, couldn't take him seriously after that Quote
Bassassin Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) Rubbish. Sloppy, poor timing, messy technique and not a single contextually-relevant idea there. But that's the joy of YouPube - every w@nky-hatted, self-obsessed little showoff tosser can be a legend in their own bedroom! Jon. Edited January 8, 2011 by Bassassin Quote
ahpook Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 i think he needs some miso to go with his noodles. Quote
jimijimmi Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 each to their own i guess... id have the bass set up before his next vid tho...sounds vile. Quote
KiOgon Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) I could listen to his playing (for a while) if he wasn't wearing that stupid cap & if he turned that crap backing 'music' off Edited January 8, 2011 by KiOgon Quote

If this guy spent as much time practicing to clean up his sloppy playing (attack, tone, timing, note selection etc etc etc) as he does straightening his hair and making sure his hat is at the correct 'jaunty' angle, he might actually become an alright bass player. However, it looks unlikely that he would ever choose to practice instead of blowing himself pretentious kisses in the mirror and increasing his already sizeable ego. P.s. Just listened to his Cee Lo Green and his bass is out of tune. "All the gear, nee idea" Edited January 8, 2011 by skej21 Quote
gjones Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Awwww, I think we should stop crucifying the poor kid. He put it up on youtube to look cool and impress his friends at school. And we then proceed to rip him to shreds! We're better than that..............aren't we? Quote
warwickhunt Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 The sad thing is that he CAN play bass (OK note choice, number of notes and timing is a little out in places but when the red light goes on I'm sure we might all find ourselves guilty of the odd blunder) but he's coming across all showmanship/flash and lacking in any substance to his playing! I'd not be surprised to learn that he is also a guitar player... and yes I consider the bass and the guitar separate instruments BUT accept that you can be proficient in both. However, I feel that where guitarists don't make good bassists is in the way that this guy is approaching it, does he not understand that there are likely to be other instruments in the band playing along with him? I've a feeling if this guy turned up for an audition with my band he'd be shown the door pretty sharpish! Quote

The Bass Doc Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I might just prefer to listen to an album's worth of duets for bagpies and banjo. Then again..... Quote

But I have to say the choice of notes is not that bad. Just the timing and how he plays it. And I must say this, the tone is horrible. Quote

To me, the bass needs to be laying down a groove. A lot of hip hop tracks (like the one he's playing along to) have space for a good groove, but his playing in that vid sounds too mechanical to me. That's before going into the timing issues and how bad his slap sounds. Quote

I don't think anyone's been at all unfair, and he genuinely does look a complete knob in that hat. J. Quote
Muzz Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 An ideal candidate for "Is that as hard to play as it is to listen to, mate?". Quote
SteveK Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 There's an awful lot wrong with that clip. If he was after advice, I would suggest a good teacher before he develops any more bad habits. Quote
Fat Rich Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Maybe he should stop mucking about and learn to groove. Or at least play in time a bit. Quote
icastle Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Leaving out the swear words, he's just a guitarist having a go at playing a bass guitar. Quote
Cat Burrito Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I can't believe so many people are just focussing in on his hat you've obviously not noticed his cardigan? Quote
Chris2112 Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Well that was a complete load of crap. His tone is awful for a start! His playing didn't fit the song at all and was very sloppy too. The slap was very poor too. Not a fan. He also looks like a knob, but thats beside the point. Quote
