I'd never let my Kubicki go. The word is that Phil Kubicki has moved from California to New Hampshire to "semi retire" and was finishing his order book before retiring properly. So that means no new Kubicki basses, and that brings me back to reality thinking "when would I ever find another one?". My ACG as well, it's just too good to let go. I got it for £950, which is outrageous value. The quality of it is as good as any bass I've ever played, even at 4 times the price! Between them, I've got nearly £2000 tied up in instruments alone and given that bass is fairly low down on my list of hobbies I don't want to spend more than that on it at the moment, especially because my real passion is cars! These will never be reproduced as a true sound by your amp but I understand that the amp will try anyway as it receives them in the signal. With this filter, the amp has more power to divert at frequencies you will hear! Perhaps this is why my ACG sounds so striking! Every time I plug it in it's fills the room and sounds incredibly present like no other bass I've had. The sound just 'jumps' out at you! It's also a very versatile preamps because it's based around the low pass filter attached to every pickup. You have two knobs to control the 'envelope' of this filter and another dual band treble control. What you end up with is incredible versatile and very useable. It's easy to get that burpy Wal tone, characterised by it's strong midrange presence but it really is it's own animal, and sounds suitably boutique to match! And it's not just the preamp; the craftsmanship is incredible. There is no-one in the UK today who can work work like Alan at ACG. Add to that the fact they play brilliantly and you're onto a winning formula!

Chris2112
Basically mate, it sounds class. If you're ever in Newcastle give me a shout and you can come and try it. It sounds like Geddy Lee's Wal bass on Power Windows, but then I turn two controls and suddenly it sounds like Jaco Pastorius playing a fretted jazz. Then I quickly turn another control and I've got a slap tone to die for, reminiscent of the big American Boutique sounds you hear on the American gospel scene.
